Singing A New Song

Sing to the Lord a new song; Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Psalm 96:1

Music has always been an important part of my life. But, until recently, it had taken more of a "back burner" in my life due to other work commitments. It has been a joy, therefore, that in retirement I am now able to use my musical abilities once again in service to the Lord. Assisting with directing the chancel and handbell choirs at my church as well as singing and playing handbells have brought satisfaction, new learning and meaning to my life in recent months. It has occurred to me, however, that there are many ways to "sing a new song" to the Lord that might not even involve music. Often, we are reluctant to try new things in order to serve. We get stuck in what feels comfortable and safe to us and don't want to branch out. But, could the Lord be calling us to serve in a new area or in a new way? Perhaps, the Lord calls us to "sing a new song" with something we have not done before. Tomorrow, I will sing a new song to the Lord as I preach the sermon at my church for the very first time. It is a task that I face with gratitude, anticipation, reverence, humbleness and awe. I have never sung this song before. And, I do not know if it is within the Lord's plan for me to continue singing this song, or if this song will be sung one time. I am open, however, to listening for the voice of the Lord and looking at Him to direct my "singing" in whatever form that may take.

What new song are you called to sing unto the Lord today?

Blessings,
Debbie

Wow Debbie, that is a brave, new move! Good for you for trusting the Lord to be with you and speak through you! I will pray for you! Just listening and being alert to His leading keep us moving in the right direction. But we have to be willing to go where He leads, and you are doing just that! I can only imagine the preparation that is going into your message! Blessings as you step forward in faith!

The Lord will guide us all and tell us what is expected of us. And sometimes we may not feel very comfortable in the new task but we must trust his wisdom. Good luck in your sermon.
