Creating The Illusion of A Skirt
Hey everyone! Here is my OOTD that I wore to church. Today, I'm showing how to create the illusion that a dress is a skirt. Nothing earth shattering, I know, but sometimes you have reason to want to do this.
My reason for styling this way is that there is so much color in the tie-dye of the dress that I felt like it was too much around my face. A bit overwhelming and like the dress wears me rather than me wearing the dress. I wanted to have a solid color closer to my face. And, although this thick sweater has some horizontal stripes, they don't show up very much and I felt like the purple in the sweater would match well with the purple in the tie-dye of the dress. For some reason, the sweater comes off as blue in these photos, but, trust me, in real life it is purple!
I wore my brown Skecher booties to coordinate with the light brown of the tie-dye in the dress. The addition of the sweater, the booties and the leggings I wore underneath, created a very warm and comfortable outfit! I was a happy camper in our cold Sunday weather today!
I wore my hair up today and chose to wear these dangling earrings that belonged to my Mom. The colors in the earrings match well with the tie-dye colors of the dress; the purples, greens and browns. The earrings sort of swirl the colors around. These are a favorite pair of my Mom's earrings that I own.
I like how the outfit came together, its comfort level and warmth and the fact that I was able to wear my Mom's earrings. I don't know that this outfit is current "trend-worthy" but, I'll be honest with you, I am caring less and less about being "current and trendy" and more and more about being comfortable and Debbie! And, I hope you feel the same way about your clothing choices! You can compare today's OOTD to my previous post wearing this dress and decide for yourself which way of styling you like better. I won't always style this dress like a skirt, but, for today, this way of styling worked well for me!

I sometimes struggle with finding clothes in my closet that are warm enough on a cold winter day. I think you have found the answer here, Debbie, and that is layering. However, you have layered in a very creative way. I always like the way you use clothes in a variety of ways. You have that knack because I have seen how you do it with objects too in your home decor posts. It makes me think that I should "shop my closet" (your words from previous posts) to see what new looks I can find.
This is an idea I've not thought of, which is why I am always interested to see how you are styling things! Your ideas are doable with things you already own, and for me this is important. It's good to use what we have in new and creatI've ways. Looking at the previous post with this dress, I don't think it's too much at all, you look great in that! Nice you can wear it two ways and look completely different! Your hair looks pretty that way and let's your mom's beautiful earrings shine! I'll have to go look through the closet!

It's interesting what you say about layering. You're absolutely right, but I never thought about my styling that way. I do layer a lot in both clothing and home decor. Thanks for pointing that out to me! Have fun shopping your closet!
