Weekend Inspiration: A Scripture for 2018

Contentment In Your Place

"Where you are right now is God's place for you."
I Corinthians 7:17 (The Message)

First of all, I realize I'm late with my weekend devotional. I try to get it posted by Saturday evening at the latest. But sometimes time gets away from me and/or inspiration doesn't come. So, better late than never! I have decided to give a different name to my devotionals in 2018. This year they will be called, "Weekend Inspiration" and may appear on either Saturday or Sunday. I have so appreciated all of you who have read and commented on the Saturday Scripture posts this past year and I hope you will continue to read and post in the upcoming year!

Those of you who follow me regularly already know that I choose one (or more) words to focus on throughout the year. This year I'm surprised to have chosen four words and they are thankful, music, commitment and risk. I have never thought, however, of choosing a particular scripture to focus on throughout the year....until this year. I was having my daily devotional about a month or so ago and read I Corinthians 7:17. It really spoke to my heart and I found myself meditating on this scripture and returning to it again and again. I truly feel that the Lord is speaking to me at this time of my life with this scripture. So, I have chosen it as a focus scripture for 2018. All scripture has something to teach us. Sometimes, however, a particular scripture stands out and speaks to us at a particular time. This scripture is calling to me and I am prayerfully asking God to help me to fully understand its meaning for my life. Perhaps you would like to consider choosing a "focus scripture" for 2018. If you do, I would love for you to share! Blessings in the week ahead!

That's a great idea, Debbie. I'm still considering a word for the year, and I haven't quite made that decision yet. I will definitely be following your weekend inspiration for 2018.

I have my word, which came to me when I was praying about the choice. I have read all sorts of methods for choosing the word, and some actually sound like a game which didn't work for me. I wanted to seriously ponder it and pray about it. While I was praying, the word that kept coming to me was "pray." That is my word this year. I have a lot to pray about and many to pray for, and God also put it in my heart that I have to always start with thanksgiving. That is kind of retraining my brain since I always just launched right in! Being thankful is so important, and goes along with your theme of being content where you are. If it's not a good place, I trust that God will move me and/or change circumstances. I like the idea of choosing a verse for the year too, and will give that some thought in the coming days! I will certainly be reading your inspirational messages! Thank you for continuing to post them!

Thanks, Karen, for sharing. Like you, I don't like the "game-like" ways of choosing a word either. I'm certain that the Lord will guide you as you focus on prayer in the coming year. Being thankful is one of my words, as well. I think your point of coming into prayer with thanksgiving first, is important. Something I need to do, as well. Blessings!

Debbie, what a gift this post is to me! I am determined to find my purpose, God’s purpose for me, in this world at this time in my life. Finding my purpose is something I have longed to do since retiring in August 2015 and I am still searching. Struggling, in fact, but I have found some new tools (in addition to prayer) since becoming more resolved for 2018 that give me hope. I had not thought of having a word for 2018, but knew immediately after reading your post that “purpose” is my word. And I could feel the power that came from identifying it! So, thank you for that.

As God is always good and works in ways that we humans find mysterious, your Bible verse ALSO touched me instantly. Because the verse is visible first on your Facebook post, I read the verse before I read your blog post and felt an emotional and spiritual connection. After reading your blog, my search for purpose and your Bible verse brought me to a place of peace and comfort and resolve. I now realize that even as I search for purpose, God always has purpose for me right now, right where I am, because “where I am RIGHT NOW” is where God’s places me.” My epiphany is that I need to search for God’s purpose for me in every place instead of searching for a different or better place under the assumption that I am not where I am supposed to be! Oh, sweet release!

Thank you for being a willing and open vessel for God’s love and grace and word. I am so blessed by you over and over again...but this feels like a big one! Thank you, precious friend. Laura

Hooray, Laura, your post came through!! I am thrilled beyond words that my post was so meaningful and helpful to you!! I struggle also with wondering if I am doing what I am "supposed" to be doing for the Lord. This Bible verse really gave me peace that God puts me where He wants me and uses me in all of the places I find myself, so I don't have to be stressing so much about it. Love your sweet comment!
